Its most advanced silicon is primarily manufactured by one vendor, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company.
"We built what we call the unified memory architecture that is scalable across products," Srouji said.
Apple's silicon team has grown to thousands of engineers working across labs all over the world, including in Israel, Germany, Austria, the U.K. and Japan.
